about the role
applications are invited from enthusiastic, motivated individuals for a cruk- funded postdoctoral researcher position for professor madalena tarsounas's group, within the department of oncology. you will join an exciting research programme which combines cell/molecular biology and microscopy approaches with high-throughput technologies and bioinformatics to understand how brca1 and brca2 facilitate dna replication and how this, in turn, impacts chromosome segregation during mitosis. we have recently mapped genome-wide the sites where mitotic dna synthesis occurs in brca1/2-deficient cells (groelly et al. , molecular cell 2022; pmid: 36002001), using state-of-the-art technologies (e.g. midas-seq, high-content microscopy) and found that they co-localise with sites of r-loop formation. we now aim to investigate the roles of atr/atm kinases, as well as of mus81 (lai et al. nat. communications 2017) and other nucleases in regulating this process.
in this role, you will work as part of a team of postdoctoral researchers, collaborating with researchers from across the university of oxford's various technology platforms. you will be responsible for developing and testing your own hypotheses, generating high-quality and reproducible data, participate in dissemination activities and aid in manuscript preparation. you will also be required to provide guidance/supervision to other members of the research group, including phd/mres students.
the position is based in the department of oncology, old road campus research building, headington, oxford, ox3 7dq and is offered on a full-time, fixed- term basis for three years.
an early start date is required.
about you
you will hold (or be very close to completing) a dphil/phd in oncology, biology or other related discipline, together with relevant experience. experience in dna damage signalling and repair is essential, together with computer literacy and a good record of publication(s) in internationally recognised journals. experience with analysis of chip-seq and/or edu-seq data would be advantageous.
application process
applicants should read the job description before completing their application. you will be required to upload a supporting statement, setting out how you meet the selection criteria, a cv, including a statement of career interests, and the contact details of two referees as part of your online application.
informal enquiries can be directed to professor madalena tarsounas: madalena.tarsounas@oncology.ox.ac.uk
only applications received by 12pm gmt on friday 20 january 2023 will be considered.
